QuickBooks is the highly popular small-to-medium-sized business accounting software produced by Intuit. This program has been popular for many years as an easy-to-use, comprehensive financial management and software tool for businesses. The 2013 edition boasts significant changes, both in the look and feel of the interface of the program and the features that are offered. There are so many upgrades that even a seasoned QuickBooks user will have to adapt to it. Though many of the advertised changes relate to MAC compatibility, there are so many new features of QuickBooks that will reduce the amount of time you spend on accounting, reporting and tracking, making it an invaluable tool.
1. Lead Center
The Lead Center allows you to track leads and potential clients using an easily searchable database. One used to have to purchase separate software for such tracking, but this feature is integrated into the new version of QuickBooks, making lead generation and tracking much simpler.
There are now submenus, called “ribbons,” that include links to relevant features commonly used when a certain function, such as invoicing, is selected.
3. Copy and Paste
This feature is especially useful for those who are just starting out with this software, but can also be useful to those with experience too. While there is still no option to import spreadsheets from other programs, there is a new feature that makes the transfer of data between a spreadsheet like Excel into your QuickBooks database easier. You can now copy the data from the spreadsheet and paste it into a table in QuickBooks.
4. Tables Easier on Eyes
In previous versions of Quickbooks, the tables (which often present a large amount of information) were monochromatic and the text was very small. This made it a bit hard on the eyes. The 2013 version boasts larger rows and fonts, as well as the option for highlighting. All of these things make the tables easier to read and cause less eye strain for the user.
5. Quick Access Bar
The new version of QuickBooks now allows for the creation of a “quick links” tab that provides easily accessible links to your most commonly used functions. This means less time spent navigating between windows to find the functions you use most often, saving you valuable time spent on paperwork and other reporting duties.
6. Intuit Payment Center Access
This is an integration with the Intuit’s online payment center. It allows for automatic or one-time bill paying to anyone/place that accepts credit cards for a flat rate of $0.50, regardless of the total amount of the payment. The payment is automatically updated in your QuickBooks database and the appropriate invoice will be marked as paid.
7. Intuit App Center Access
Integrated in the 2013 version is access to Intuit’s App Center. Here, you can find QuickBooks-specific apps that will allow you to customize your program to meet the specific needs of your business. Currently, there are more than 70 apps available to choose from that are compatible with QuickBooks 2013.
There are many changes and new features in QuickBooks 2013 designed to make all aspects of your businesses financial, bookkeeping, and accounting functions easier and take less time. The integration of payment software and the ability to download custom applications makes this version of QuickBooks far more customizable than versions past. There are even new features that make tracking potential new clients as easy as a few clicks of your mouse. This means that you can easily track potential customers from leads to, well, actual customers. A great new feature, this is just one of many that makes the new version of QuickBooks all the more indispensable.
